Tyler Smith
Tyler Smith (he/him) is a motivated and dedicated dancer/choreographer who strives to make his students the most versatile and confident dancers they can possibly be. Along with teaching, he is also a professional dancer working in the dance industry in the GTA, where he continues to work on his craft to ensure he gives his students the best training possible.
Tyler has been dancing since he was 5 and has known since then that dance was the career path for him. He trained at and is an alumni of Vlad’s Dance Company where he spent 8 years of his life, aspiring to be the most versatile and captivating dancer and performer he can possibly be. He trained in all styles including Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, and Acrobatics. While training, he won many awards at national dance competitions in the United States, including placing in the Top 10 Teen and Senior Male Age Divisions. Since graduating from his studio, Tyler has gotten the opportunity to train as well as dance with the professional contemporary dance company Unikiyo (2021-2023), which is based in Las Vegas. He has performed with the company in Los Angeles at the Choreographer’s Carnival Los Angeles 2022 and at Universal Studios Hollywood 2022.
Some of Tyler’s recent performances include dancing in music videos as well as different concept videos for artists such as Christina Chong, Audien, Ben Platt, etc (2023). As well, Tyler got the chance to perform live with Canadian artist Deborah Cox (2023). Tyler has performed in two professional dance contemporary shows in the GTA, where he played a lead role in “Whole New World” directed and choreographed by Tyler Hutchings (2023), and also played the lead role of the “Boyfriend” in Come On Dreamer (2022), which was a full-length multi-media contemporary dance show choreographed by Brooke Gilmour. Tyler danced in a short film entitled Just Dance, choreographed by himself and directed by Kelsey Larkin, that won the Young Directors Award at the Cannes Film Festival (2021). Tyler also had the opportunity to perform at the Capezio Ace Awards (2020) in Brandon Croisetiere’s piece entitled Wipe Your Feet First which came second runner-up in the competition.
Tyler is so excited and super eager for the upcoming season with The North Dance Company, and he can’t wait to see all of the students progress and hard work come to life in the upcoming competition season!
